School February/March/April

On the first day of Semester II, we got our report cards for the first semester. I finished the year with 76% in English, 86% in PE, 91% in Art and 5 marks in Foods - one for each module. My average was 86%.

First of all, I wanna talk about what I did in my classes during the last months: In PE, we did a variety of different sports. We go on a lot of fieldtrips and so we have spare time in between where we just play whatever our teacher feels like. So far, our modules were squash/racquetball, wall climbing and bowling. Other things we did include floor hockey (notice that it is played with a puck!), soccer, rugby-basketball, yoga, ultimate frisbee and roller skating as well as dodgeball.
In my Design class, I had to do research and a Powerpoint presentation about the evolution of the comb and do the presentation in front of the class. That really was a lot of work! Our second project was a housedesign on Revit. We had to do the floorplans and then build the house with that software and the last point was to put furniture in. That was so much fun and gave me a better idea, what architechture is all about :). We just finished off our third project which was building a pencil holder with Inventor. We were given the different sides and had to measure them, do the different parts and then put them all together. Right now, we did perspective drawings and orthographic drawings and I now appreciate the computer even more, even though all the softwares we use are so complex and quite often I got upset! :D
In Social, the main topic for the whole semester is Globalization. We started off with identity and now we are at historical globalization. Most of the case studies are focused on Canadian Indigenous peoples, some others on the Aboriginals in South America. And of course in relation with that we talk about France and Britain, Spain and Portugal and the Catholic church.
My fourth class this term is Science. Our first unit was Biology and we talked about cells and their functions and about the different organelles. For that I had to do the project "Cell city" and I compared Germany's structure to a cell. Our unit final consisted of Multiple Choice, Numeric Answer and Short Answer, over all quite easy and I got 86% on that. We just finished off our Physics unit with a unit final. The things we talked about included speed, acceleration and energy - for me it was all review!! Our teacher JUST does Powerpoints the whole time and prints them off as a handout or she gives us a sheet that is called "fill out the blanks" but in the end we just copy down what she has in her Powerpoint. And then she gives us exercises to do...
My spring break was from March 27th until April 6th, more about what I did during that time in my next entries. A week ago, I took my host sister Maria to Western Canada High School (my school) to show her around as she is in Grade 9 and thinks about going there.
Hopefully, the semester will end just as great as it began - maybe just a little more interesting content. Term 4 which is the last one in the year) just started on Monday...
